Principles

An open rating lets anyone check whether it is honest. Ours will have five parts.

The five parts

  • Factors and weights. Every factor and its weight is listed, with the current version.
  • Sources and dates. Every fact shows where it came from and when we checked it. Facts verified in public records are marked apart from what a company says about itself.
  • Score breakdown. Each listing shows how its score adds up.
  • Corrections. Any business can ask us to fix a factual error, free of charge. We recalculate by the same rules.
  • Change log. When the method changes, we record what changed and why.

What stays private

We publish factors and weights, but not the exact thresholds we use to spot fake data.
